Old Town San Diego State Park

Old Town San Diego State Park is known for being where our history as a state began, and your visit to the area would not be complete without an exploration of the area. Offering a peek into our long and rich history, visitors can expect to see historical sites, eclectic restaurants, beautiful shops, and a variety of events and celebrations that everyone is invited to explore. Today, we at Penny Realty are taking you on a tour of historic Old Town San Diego State Park, adding an extra element of fun and interest to your California vacation.

A Peek into the Past

Although the story of California begins in 1542 with the arrival of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, its history goes back thousands of years, with the Kumeyaay people being considered the original inhabitants, and the park celebrates their life in a new community gathering area that honors their contributions to San Diego—more specifically, the Old Town area. Also providing a large selection of historic buildings, including the Whaley House Museum that was constructed on the site of Old Town’s gallows, this home is one of two officially designated haunted houses in the state.

Shops You Will Love

The Old Town Market is one of our favorite places to shop for gifts, both for ourselves and others, offering galleries (San Diego Art), home goods (Mi Casa es Mi Casa), even a pet shop that offers gifts for your favorite pet, including clothing, accessories, even t-shirts for humans that represent your favorite dog breed (Love my Pet, Old Time Gifts). The merchandise you will find inside these stores is uniquely special and will keep the shopper in your life occupied for more than a minute.

Restaurants You Will Crave

The best vacations are often remembered for the food we eat, and the restaurants in Old Town are destined to be an integral part of your vacation experience. Café Coyote is perhaps the most renowned restaurant, open for over 30 years and serving the classic Mexican food we Californians can’t live without. As you can imagine, there are a large number of Mexican restaurants in Old Town, but there are more than a few American restaurants and pubs offering a great evening out.
