Serra Mesa
Clear skies and calm winds abound in Serra Mesa, San Diego. Noted for its beautiful weather and temperate climate, its proximity to the desert keeps this area dry and warm when the coast tends to get a little rain or a winter chill. Its distance from the beach gives way to much more affordable homes and rentals, while year-round blue skies, and a 15-minute drive to the coast is hard to beat.
Modern development of this small community began sometime during the 1950’s, and growth has not yet exceeded 25,000 residents. It is juxtaposed between the business district of Kearny Mesa and the busy neighborhood of Mission Valley. Below is a list of nearby attractions that you can check out during your stay in this tranquil San Diego community.
Area Parks: Cabrillo Heights Neighborhood Park is probably the largest of the parks in the Serra Mesa area, though it is still quite small and does not boast modern amenities. It is still a great, calm place to spend some time with your family. Serra Mesa Park, though even smaller, has a recreation center with an indoor basketball park, as well as two playgrounds, a baseball diamond, and an outdoor basketball court. The Ruffin Canyon Open Space Preserve is a 84-acre area of natural habitat that offers great hikes and beautiful views.
Qualcomm Stadium: Home to the Chargers, the Q, to the locals, is a short drive away from the heart of Serra Mesa. You can watch San Diego’s NFL team take on worthy opponents, or check out one of the many music events that take place at Qualcomm Stadium.
Tecolote Canyon and Natural Park: Tecolote Canyon’s 6.5 miles of trails are excellent for walkers, joggers, runners, and mountainbikers, and the canyon is just a few minutes’ drive from the center of Serra Mesa.
Shopping: The two largest malls in San Diego, Fashion Valley and Mission Valley, are about 5 minutes south of Serra Mesa. Whether you hope to spend a day shopping in beautiful weather at an outdoor mall, or you simply need a place to find something to eat, these two malls offer hundreds of stores, restaurants and bars.

Beaches: Serra Mesa is about 10-15 minutes from Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, and Pacific Beach.
SeaWorld San Diego: With easy freeway access to the 805, SeaWorld San Diego is a mere 15-minute drive from Serra Mesa.
San Diego International Airport: The San Diego airport is only a 20 minute drive away, but for those with the option to fly into Montgomery Field, this small airport is less than 5 minutes from almost any area of Serra Mesa.
Historic Gas Lamp District and Downtown San Diego: The center of downtown is an easy 10-15 minute drive from Serra Mesa.
Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo: The San Diego Zoo/Balboa Park is about 10 to 15 minutes from the center of Serra Mesa. Easily accessed via the 805.
