North Park

Located in the heart of San Diego, North Park is a youthful, artsy, hipster-esque neighborhood that has kept its character over the years. This hodgepodge of personalities and demographics makes this sprawling urban neighborhood a prime spot for youthful scenesters, laid-back seniors, and culturally-aware singles and families. For those looking for a local spot to spend their next vacation, with easy access to many of the main San Diego attractions, North Park is a great place to visit for any trip to America’s Finest City.

While many areas claim to be the heart of San Diego, North Park is geographically located in the true center. Bordered by Hillcrest and Balboa Park/Downtown, this up and coming neighborhood is emerging as San Diego’s cultural, artistic, and musical core. From restaurants and bars that compete with the pricier downtown choices, to the community support of local artists through the Ray at Night monthly festival, North Park is a neighborhood so innately linked to the culture of San Diego, yet uniquely diverse.

While staying in North Park, there are a number of places to visit, things to see, and activities to experience. Here are some of the favorite choices among locals and visitors to this thriving community, as well as overall distances and accessibility information to some of San Diego’s main attractions.

Ray At Night: Every second Saturday night of the month, North Park hosts the Ray at Night art walk through the streets and galleries of the neighborhood. It is the largest monthly art even in all of San Diego, and it often draws upwards of 1,500 people. The art displays include jewelry, ceramics, sculptures, sketches, paintings, blown glass, and more.

Bar Pink Elephant – Home of the Styletones: This local favorite is home to more pink elephants than Dumbo’s night at the carnival. With tons of local live bands playing on the regular, and a number of specialty cocktails to choose from, Bar Pink is just a step above dive, with great prices. The Styletones, a local favorite and opening act for many big shows that come through San Diego, play here on Monday nights. This is the perfect place to capture the vibe of North Park during a short or long term stay in the area.

Little Italy: Not technically in North Park, Little Italy is a short drive or bus ride through Hillcrest and Banker’s Hill. While it may be difficult to figure out which of the Italian eateries are authentic, there are plenty of places to choose from. The Waterfront Bar and Grill is a huge favorite among locals, with affordable booze and delicious grub.

Petco Park: The San Diego Padres always put on a great performance at their newest location in Downtown San Diego. Just a 5 to 10 minute drive from North Park, Petco Park is a beautiful diamond with plenty of seats and lawn space, as well as a small area for children to play tag and soccer. Whether you like baseball or not, everyone can agree that attending a Padres game at Petco Park is a great way to spend a day. While you’re in the area, you can check out the Historic Gas Lamp District, as well as all the shops, restaurants, and excitement that downtown San Diego has to offer.

Distances to Main Attractions

Beaches: North Park is a mere 10-15 minutes from the beautiful beaches of Coronado, and about 15-20 minutes from Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, and Pacific Beach.
SeaWorld San Diego: With easy freeway access to the 163 and 805, SeaWorld San Diego is a 15-minute drive from North Park.
San Diego International Airport: Via an easy drive on the Freeway or along the harbor, the San Diego Airport is approximately 15 minutes west of North Park.
Historic Gas Lamp District and Downtown San Diego: The center of downtown is an easy 5 to 10-minute drive through North Park and Balboa Park.
Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo: Close enough to walk! The San Diego Zoo/Balboa Park borders the southwest side of North Park. Save money on parking and walk 10 minutes or hop on a bus!
Old Town San Diego: Less than fifteen minutes away, the Historic area of Old Town San Diego is easily accessible and loaded with culture.
Easy Access to the 163, the 805, and the 5 Freeway.

Great Property - will recommend to friends. Great advice on where to stay! The condo accommodated all members of the party and my daughter's graduation event was a success.
