Mira Mesa Area Info

This suburban city of the greater San Diego area is known for affordable homes, friendly communities, and easy access to nature. Once only accessible via the 15 freeway, Mira Mesa is now connected to Sorrento Valley, and North County by way of the 56 (Ted Williams Freeway) and the 805. This extension of San Diego city is a unique and thriving community, close enough to a number of great attractions to remain accessible, but far enough away to remain affordable.

Edwards Mira Mesa IMAX 3D:

The only place in the area that offers a 3D IMAX experience, the Edwards Mira Mesa Theater attracts people of all ages from all corners of San Diego. Catch a late night flick at the theater, or spend an afternoon enjoying the warm weather and nearby restaurants before cooling off in a crisp movie theater climate.

Asian Markets:

Whether you’re a local San Diegan, or visiting from out of town, you cannot get much better Asian food than at some of the markets in the Mira Mesa area. Inland San Diego is known for its eclectic array of Asian businesses and markets and for those of you with a fine-tuned taste for delicacies of the Orient, you’re sure to snag some amazing finds at a Mira Mesa market.

Farmer’s Market:

Every Tuesday from 3-7pm, Mira Mesa High School hosts the Mira Mesa Farmer’s Market. Tons of vendors come out to supply the community with local produce, handmade crafts and more. Even if you’re not in the market for fruits and veggies, checking out the selection of items, and personalities of people, is always a fun way to spend an afternoon. If you are just visiting, you can support the community by picking up some farm-fresh fruits and veggies!

Miramar Lake:

If you plan to stuff some nature hikes and outdoor activities into your stay in San Diego, you can’t go wrong with a day by Miramar Lake. This community lake and surrounding park is a great place to bring your family, go for a run, or enjoy a nice, leisurely walk around the lake. Be sure to pack a picnic, and just like any open area, be sure to bring friends and family members along for the day!

Mira Mesa is a 20 to 30-minute drive from the beaches of North County, and about 35 minutes from the beautiful shores of La Jolla.

San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park:

Few popular spots in San Diego are close to this awesome attraction. From Mira Mesa, the Wild Animal Park is an easy 25-minute drive.

SeaWorld San Diego:

By jumping on the 163 and the 8 west, you can reach SeaWorld San Diego in 25 minutes.

San Diego International Airport:

A 25 to 30-minute drive south will take you to the San Diego airport. For those looking for something a little closer, Montgomery Field in Kearny Mesa is about 15 to 20 minutes away from Mira Mesa.

Historic Gas Lamp District and Downtown San Diego:

The center of downtown is about 25 minutes south of Mira Mesa.

Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo:

Access to the Zoo and famed park is easy via the 163, and the drive takes about 20 minutes.

Old Town San Diego:

About 20 to 25 minutes away, the Historic area of Old Town San Diego is easily accessible and loaded with culture.
