Q. Can I reserve a vacation property for longer than 30 days? Can I reserve an unfurnished property for six months or longer?
A. Yes, many of our clients (especially in the offseason) will reserve a fully furnished vacation rental for 30, 60, or 90 days. If you reserve a rental for longer than 30 days, you will not be required to pay the City of San Diego Transient Occupancy Tax (T.O.T. tax, currently 10.5%). However, you will need to sign a residential lease, and be financially qualified, just as a long term tenant would need to do.
We also have a large inventory of unfurnished long term rentals available in the coastal region of San Diego. These properties are generally available at competitive rents for 6 months to one year longer.
Q. How do I make a reservation? Do I have to deal with a Homeowner?
A. No. We are a full service Real Estate Company and we have been in this business since 1965! We are here for you all the way. We will help you identify the right property, we take the reservation, send the confirmation and we are there to greet you at check in when you arrive. We have our own 3 story office building centrally located just steps away from the ocean and Crystal Pier. We are open 7 days / week, and someone is always on call after hours to assist with emergencies.
In contrast, other commonly found vacation rental websites are aggregates for many Homeowners. Many of these are just “internet sites” with no office or staff to take care of you and your needs. You may also find many “mom ‘n’ pop” outfits where the service level during your booking and stay is highly variable. Q. Do Penny Realty vacation rentals come with Housekeeping?
A. Our properties are professionally cleaned between rentals. If you desire daily housekeeping, we can arrange this for an extra fee.
However, if you decide to go with an online aggregation site, you may find yourself dealing with an individual homeowner who may not have a "check-in" location or responsive housekeeping personnel to contact during your stay.
Q. How far in advance should I book my vacation rental?
A. You can book your rental at the last minute, and we will always do our best to accommodate you. However, to get the best homes and condos in the best locations, we highly recommend you reserve your property as soon as possible.
Many of our vacationers come back to a Penny Realty rental year after year, and they often reserve the same beach house for the following summer when they depart their existing rental.
For the busy summer season, it is not uncommon for most all oceanfront and bay front properties to be fully reserved by January or February.
Q. Why should I book a vacation rental home or condo instead of a Hotel room?
A. Penny Realty vacation rentals offer a superb value and are an excellent alternative to a traditional Hotel family vacation. Hotel rooms are much smaller, and a family of four or more often will need to rent 2+ Hotel rooms and pay for all meals out at restaurants. Our vacation rentals offer more space and amenities and come with fully equipped kitchens. The entire family can stay under the same roof in one of our private homes, condos or cottages. Most of our vacation rentals reside directly on the waterfront, or they are just steps from the Ocean or Bay. Our vacation rentals are also a fantastic choice for family reunions, weddings, or just a romantic getaway.
