Del Mar Races: Just a few miles south of Encinitas is the lovely town of Del Mar. Each year the San Diego Fair and Del Mar Races come to town, attracting high rollers from all over the country. The main brew is in Carlsbad, which borders the northern side of Encinitas, and a second location is in Solana Beach, about 4 miles south of downtown Encinitas. Within Encinitas, a great spot for burgers and beers is the Encinitas Ale House. On Tuesday nights, they offer buy one get one free burgers (these big burgers are not for the faint at heart), and they have the largest selection of craft and imported Belgian beers in North County.
Swami’s Seaside Park: A small park, beach, and great surfing spot, Swami’s is a favorite among locals, and a nationally-acclaimed surf spot. It has been rated among the top 5 surf spots in the country numerous times, and was mentioned in The Beach Boys’ song, “Surfin USA.”
Distances to Main Attractions
Beaches: While the city of Encinitas encompasses inland areas, it is a beach city at heart. About 6 miles of Encinitas is along the beach, and it includes the communities of Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and Olivenhein. The beach is never more than 8 minutes away.
San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park: Depending on the route you take, the Wild Animal Park can be 30 to 45 minutes away from your vacation rental in Encinitas.
SeaWorld San Diego: By jumping on the 5, any vacation home in Encinitas is about 30 minutes from SeaWorld.
Legoland: Located in the largest North County area of Carlsbad, Legoland is about 10-15 minutes from Encinitas.
San Diego International Airport: A 35-minute drive south will take you to the San Diego airport.
Historic Gas Lamp District and Downtown San Diego: You can reach the center of downtown in 30-40 minutes from most areas of Encinitas.
Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo: The drive to the San Diego Zoo from Encinitas is a quick 30 minutes on the 5 and 805 Freeways.
