Encinitas Area Info

As far as the coastal cities of North County are concerned, it doesn’t get much better than Encinitas. A perfect blend of surf culture, beachgoers, and health fanatics, Encinitas is a great vacation getaway for anyone interesting in slowing things down a little bit.

Home to the most triathletes in the country, this suburban neighborhood of San Diego is rife with organic and natural eateries, bike shops, running shops, surf shops and more. There are a number of beach rentals throughout the communities of Encinitas and Leucadia, and greatly discounted deals at restaurants and bars in the area. Read through some of the great local attractions and plan your next trip to a North County neighborhood gem!

Downtown Encinitas:

The six blocks of Downtown Encinitas include a number of great local spots, as well as boutiques, late night taco shops, and more. This area also boasts a low-key swap meet on Sunday afternoons that incorporates local art, food, and crafts.

Del Mar Races:

Just a few miles south of Encinitas is the lovely town of Del Mar. Each year the San Diego Fair and Del Mar Races come to town, attracting high rollers from all over the country. If you’re looking for a great place to check out some horse races, this is the place to start. Bets start at $2, so it’s great for amateur gamblers and those just looking to have fun.

Local Favorites:

A gourmet pizza shop, craft brewery, and all-around fun environment, you cannot miss stopping at Pizza Port during your trip to San Diego. With four locations in Southern California, Pizza Port is a SoCal favorite.  The main brew is in Carlsbad, which borders the northern side of Encinitas, and a second location is in Solana Beach, about 4 miles south of downtown Encinitas. Within Encinitas, a great spot for burgers and beers is the Encinitas Ale House. On Tuesday nights, they offer buy one get one free burgers (these big burgers are not for the faint at heart), and they have the largest selection of craft and imported Belgian beers in North County.

Swami’s Seaside Park:

A small park, beach, and great surfing spot, Swami’s is a favorite among locals, and a nationally-acclaimed surf spot. It has been rated among the top 5 surf spots in the country numerous times, and was mentioned in The Beach Boys' song, "Surfin USA."
