In the midst of Mission Bay is the neighborhood of Crown Point. Located just south of Pacific Beach, this small peninsula extends south into the bay, towards Ocean Beach. The many vacation homes and businesses of Crown Point are comfortably nestled between Sail Bay and Fiesta Bay, two very popular boating, biking, running, and swimming locations. Staying by the bay is a great option for those with young children, or a large group. Due to the convenient location of the peninsula, Crown Point is a short drive, or bike ride, to Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Ocean Beach.
The great thing about Crown Point is that you are never far from anything. SeaWorld is located just over the bridge, a mere 5 minute drive away, while access to the main freeways in the area, the 8 and the 5, is simple and fast. Below are some of the great attractions, and main destinations close to the Crown Point Area.
Mission Bay Park: About a mile south from the tip of Crown Point is Mission Bay Park. You can follow Ingraham across two bridges, and turn into the family-friendly location on the left. This is a highly popular spot for family gatherings, birthday parties, picnics, barbeques, and reunions. They have grills and some open fire pits provided, as well as easy access to swimming in the Bay. This is a great area to bring the family for a day – or just to explore the many paths used by bikers and runners.
Mission Bay Public Golf Course: For those of you that chose San Diego because of the great golf courses – you’re in luck in Crown Point! The Mission Bay Public Golf Course is about two miles north of the center of Crown Point. It is located by the northeast end of the bay near De Anza Cove, right next to the entrance to the 5 Freeway.
Rocky’s Crown Pub: Home of the best burger in the Pacific Beach to Mission Beach area, Rocky’s Pub is a huge crowd favorite. The only items on the menu are burgers (1/2 or 1/3 pound, with or without cheese) and french fries. This is not your typical burger joint; this local hotspot provides handmade burgers that are always fresh and delicious. Just remember – it can get pretty crowded during the peak dinner hours, they do not have a bathroom, and they only accept cash.
Pacific to Mission Boardwalk: Loaded with attractions for all ages, the boardwalk area between the Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach and the Jetty in Mission Beach is a hot spot for locals and tourists alike. Not only are there a number of great local bars, authentic taco shops, and beach activities, but the famed Belmont Park boasts a wooden roller coaster, Ferris wheel and other great Coney Island-esque rides. A mere two to three miles from your vacation rental in Crown Point, the beaches of Pacific and Mission have a lot to offer all visitors.
